Melatonin Alert

I have chronic sleeping problems, so I've been taking melatonin for a while. A doctor told me it's a benign drug that's completely safe to take. But I've recently stopped because I've been developing flat moles on my fingers. It's strange to see new spots on your skin that weren't there before. My Dad says it's because of the melatonin - the same thing happened to him (excpet he got a lot more moles and all over his body). They promptly went away when he stopped taking melatonin. There's nothing in the literature about this phenomenon, so you heard it hear first. Another Banerjee discovery.

The link you have for melatonin says, "In past studies, researchers have given people up to 600 to 3,000 times the usual doses - without causing any toxicity." Question for you, G... How many mgs a day do you take? I wonder what happened to the person who took 3,001 times the usual dose.

The doctor told me that too. He said he's been in the ER when someone who "swallowed a whole bottle" of melatonin was wheeled in. Basically they couldn't wake the guy up for 13 hours. But as far as negative health symptons, there were none. I actually up-ed my dosage to 3 to 4mg, where the usual dose for someone my age is 1mg.
