Miracle

miracle2.jpg I saw Miracle tonight while my roommate had floor seats to the Grammy awards. I don't know how he pulled that off. He's probably at Clive Davis' after-party right now chillin with Beyonce and Jay-Z.

I thought Miracle was interesting because they decided not to use real actors, but real hockey players (11 Americans & 8 Canadians) and teach them to act - and it doesn't show. The players did a great job. Kurt Russel turned in an outstanding performance. Everyone talked like Canadians without saying "eh". I think it's because they're all suppossed to be from Minnesota. The movie was inspiring without being too sappy. The only thing Disney about it was the complete absence of coarse language. Or maybe there was, and I'm just so desensitized I didn't notice.

If you want to see a brilliant movie with "normal people taught to act" then you have to see City of God. The bonus was that the filmmaker managed to get a good chunk of those kids off the street and to promise to get out of gangs. Definitely one of the best movies of last year.

Is that the one where Meg Ryan gets hit by a bus at the end?
