So I have a first date next Tuesday with a girl I met on the web. I wasn't meeting any chiquitas so I decieded to try this eharmony shit. I thought it was for Christian singles at first, but after filling out the profile info, I learned heathens like me can participate too. Whew. Eharmony claims that their matching process is scientific and produces highly compatible matches that should be taken seriously by each user and explored thoroughly.
So I got matched up with this girl Natalie who also lives in LA. What I can tell so far is that she's fairly upbeat and a very positive person. Hey, cool. So we started emailing eachother last week. She turns out to have a degree in EE too.... suspicious. This matching system really did it's job, considering it's questions are profession blind. But wait, I don't even like engineering really. Well, turns out, neither does Natalie. As soon as she finished EE, she went to film school to study directing, but focused on sound. Now she is a sound engineer at a DVD studio. She decided that entertaining people is more for her.
She's in the "industry", as they say here in LA. I must say that I'm quite impressed. I only took EE to learn how to make stereos. And here's a girl who basically pursued audio too.
Now I have to find a restaurant to take her too. She's only been in LA 8 months, and doesn't really know what the "scene" is like. Like I do..... Well, G, you better think of something.
Posted by G at December 11, 2003 09:46 PM | TrackBackMy biased advice would be a french restaurant.
Not one where the waiters are all constipated - if you can find one that's more "Bon Vivant", you'll have a great time.
Hope the date is eharmonious...
Posted by: Oli at December 12, 2003 05:39 AMHmmm, yeah, French would be good. Good wine, dessert, and sensible entre portions. Thanks, Oli. Now I have to find a good French restaurant!
Posted by: G at December 12, 2003 10:27 AMYou should propose to her and then go to grad school.
Posted by: Vivek at December 12, 2003 11:11 AMYes, then live happily ever after. That's the master plan. [enter sinister laugh here]
Posted by: G at December 12, 2003 11:14 AMThere are great restaurants on Abbot-Kinney in Venice. My favourite restaurant in the WHOLE world is Joe's, but if you want french, Lilly's is good too and just down the street. Although they can get a little $$. If you want something a little more low key but still great food, there's the Zen Grill near Pico and Doheney (my second favourite in LA and probably more appropriate for a first date). There are also some pretty good restaurants on Main street in venice.
Posted by: lesley at December 12, 2003 09:18 PMJoe's??? I didn't know that was your fav.... What do they serve. Zen Grill is good, I remember. Hmmmmm.... I better decide soon, and probably give this chick a heads up. Money is not a problem, I'm mackin now...
Posted by: G at December 12, 2003 10:55 PMSorry, Oli. I couldn't find a reliable French restaurant in a good area... so I had to choose Zen Grill in Beverly Hills. I've been there before with LPT, and it's pretty good. It will score fairly high on the chick-impress meter for the eclectic menu and cozy atmosphere. And it has soft dim lighting so I'll actually look good.
I emailed Natalie and she didn't have any objections. So it's set for 7:30pm on Tuesday.
Posted by: G at December 14, 2003 06:48 PMHey - sounds like a good choice. All that matters is the chick-impress-meter, and the lighting, of course.
I never realised Leasley had such geeky initials...
Posted by: Oli at December 15, 2003 10:12 AMHey - no sweat. As long as the lighting and chick-impress-meter are taken care of...
I never realised Lesley had such wonderfully geeky initials.
Posted by: Oli at December 15, 2003 10:15 AMno no no. not french, unless it is a very casual fun bistro. the best first dates are the fun easy going ones where you can wear whatever and be yourself. my humble opinion. obviously this isn't the canadian frame of mind though.
Posted by: melis at December 16, 2003 05:10 PMHi Guys! Really Good Work!
