If you've been to LA, you're probably familiar with the fact that for an urban metropolis, there's a derth of late night eateries of good quality. This is certainly annoying for engineers who work late and don't know how to cook. But last night, I found one in West LA on Santa Monica blvd, a Japanese restaurant, no less.
The restaurant had no name. It was pretty much a hole in the wall, open till midnight. And they don't serve sushi, which was very interesting. It was more of an *izakaya*, which is a type of bar that serves a huge assortment of small appetizers to eat while you get drunk. And this means typically you get nothing raw. There's a lot grilled fair: fish, chicken hearts, liver and gizzard, octupus, tofu, veggies. Pretty simple and it was very good.

Thai town and K-town are always good places for late eats too...but I guess that's a little far from Ventura county...
