In university, Al, Tree, John and I watched every freaking episode of The Wonder Years, and we loved it. We had them all on tape (Al had taped them all the year before off the cbc while it was in syndication). We could fire off two to three espisodes a night. In fact, during exams, we would watch up to 4 a night: one while the 5lb President's Choice lasagna was in the oven, one during the lasagna itself, one during desert, and one late at night when we were up to our eyeballs in circuit theory, and John was sick of welding, or whatever mechanical engineers do. We ate 5lb lasagnas everynight. I think all 4 of us were in love with Winnie Cooper. Ok, maybe it was just me.
Al had a theory - and it may become law, since no one has been able to disprove him - that the degrees of separation between any actor and Fred Savage is only like 2 - was that it Al? 2 or 3, I guess. Kind of like how every Canadian is only spearated by 3 degrees (that's my theory). Keep in mind that if you're on at least a first name basis with someone, I consider that zero degrees of separation, for example, my family and I are separated by 0 degrees.
This is my inaugural post, and I swear, I am about to list some random actors here, and we will try to test Al's Fred Savage Separation Theory. I don't know the answers to these... let's see if it works:
1. Kevin Bacon - you knew this was coming....
2. Sarah Jessica Parker
3. Brad Pitt
4. Jaleel White (Erkel!)
5. Dave Thomas (not the dead one from Wendy's, the Bob and Doug one)
Ok - I guess if you get #1, then the whole world is covered in like 4 degrees. But it'll be interesting to see how low we can get the degrees. I don't know the answers and don't expect me to fact check.
Ok - I happened to figure out the answer for number 2 up there.... it's interesting. Fred Savage was on Seinfeld (as himself in "The Trip" in season 3). Kristin Davis, who plays Charlotte on SITC, was also on Seinfeld (as Jerry's girlfriend - Jerry dropped her toothbrush in the toilet, fished it out and didn't tell her). So Sarah is two degrees away from Fred in this relationship - one degree removed from Seinfeld through Kristin, and Seinfeld has worked with Fred, that's another degree. I give zero degrees for the Kristin Davis - Sarah connection, cuz they know eachother very well I imagine.

Posted by: Michelle at September 27, 2003 10:00 PMYou and I saw Dave Thomas at that chinese restaurant in Malibu. Does that count as anything?
Posted by: lesley at September 28, 2003 12:53 PMOnly if you or I know Keven Savage.... so not really :(
Posted by: G at September 28, 2003 12:59 PMOk, Brad Pitt, here we go: married to Jen Anniston - who is on Friends with Courtney Cox, who was on Seinfeld, where Savage also appeared.
Posted by: G at September 28, 2003 08:45 PMYo G - nice site.
I'm on my way to work, but thought I'd get to your Brad Pitt one...
Jennifer Anniston works with David Schwimer on Friends, who played Karen's boyfriend in The Wonder Years.
Gotta run... I'll write more later.
Posted by: Al at September 29, 2003 07:14 AMI forgot about the Schwimer connection. Now Erkel and Dave Thomas - those are tough. I know Erkel went to UCLA, and so did Winnie, I mean, Danica Mckellar. I wonder if they went around the same time?
Posted by: G at September 29, 2003 08:22 AMJaleel White. Here goes. He was uncredited in Undercover Brother with Cris Kattan who is a cast member of SNL. Mike Meyer's was also a cast member of SNL, and Fred Savage was in Goldmember.
Posted by: lesley at September 29, 2003 02:06 PMWow, Lesley, good work! Thanks to you I can get Dave Thomas - he was in Ratrace, with Seth Green, who was in Austin Powers with Fred Savage! I thought Jaleel White would be the deal breaker there.
