Chilly night

August in LA is supposed to be toasty hot. Last night at the hollywood bowl, the mercury dropped to 56F, or if you speak English, 11C. It was a good thing I had brought a wool blanket to stay warm. It was a night of jazz piano masters - Tyner, Brubeck and Lewis and their respective ensembles. The result was nearly 3 hours of great music for the sold out crowd of 18,000. Brubeck looked particularly frail at age 89, yet he still managed to play with grace. Tyner displayed his technical mastery with some long ballads and african rythms - all his own original compositions. And Ramsey Lewis was thankfully off his new age tip and back to soul infused bee-bop.

On an otherwise magical evening I would not have guessed it to be my last date with sweet Tara. But it was.
