One of my republican friends gets riled up with the mention of "Bowling for Colombine". He says it's all propoganda and Moore bends the truth. I didn't know what to say. I knew that Moore uses a few tricks to make things seem more real and to his liking, like editing in shots that never happened in real time. I came across this website, that refutes everything in the Colombine movie. Check out the stuff the guy says about Canada.
Then Moore has his own respnse here (not addressing everything, but it's a start).
Posted by G at April 15, 2004 08:46 AM | TrackBackSeems the BowlingForTruth guy isn't afraid to distort the facts himself:
"Canada is a fairly decent, pleasant and safe place to live (especially if you like to pay 60% of your income in taxes *)."
Jeez, is that what I pay? :)
Posted by: Tree at April 15, 2004 07:01 PMIt's really easy for both sides to get caught up in apologetics. For example, yesterday I was in the CT room, and the techs were talking politics. This one lady is apparently a big Bush (and Republican) supporter. She seemed to think that corporations did many things out of the goodness of their hearts, and wouldn't be persuaded otherwise. When the other tech told her that the hospital treated many patients with no insurance as part of a deal with the state (who gave them $800 million in funding), she was like, "See! And the hospital eats the cost of the uninsured patients." She didn't seem to get that they were paid $800 million in advance to treat them.
Also, when asked what she thought about Cheney's connection to Halliburton, she said, "He was probably just a stock holder, and didn't have anything to do with day-to-day operations". And of course, he had nothing to do with their no-bid contract and $60 million embezzlement, during a year in which they paid him over a million in consulting fees.
Anyway, my point is that when you pick a horse, you start instinctively trying to turn all of its faults into positives, and when that is possible, denying those faults.
So, maybe Michael Moore is full of shit. Maybe Charlton Heston is a stand-up guy whose words were twisted. Michael Moore doesn't have to be honest for us to agree with [some of] his ideas. Just like Republican leaders don't have to be honest, or even nice, for millions of suckers to vote for them.
Suckers. Damn, that was a huge comment.
