Honesty

I was lying in bed last night around 10:30pm when I got a SMS message:

"G - if you're still awake call me". It was from Minnesota Susan. The Mos Def concert that we were suppossed to go see at the House of Blues had been canceled. Last week she had suggested we go see the Kanye West + Dilated Peoples show there next week instead.

I guess she wanted to know what show we were going to see, as Kanye was there for 3 nights. I called her up, and after we exchanged some brief pleasantries, she said "G, I have something to tell you."

Hmmm. I don't like the sound of that. "What's up?" I asked.

"I recently got back together with my ex..... and I don't think I'd be comfortable going to see the Kanye West concert with you."

"Oh, ok."

"I'm sorry. You're a great guy and I didn't want to give you the wrong idea or lead you on in anyway."

I thanked her for being honest with me. Do I have that effect on women? The ability to drive them back into the arms of their ex's? It would seem so. I told her it's cool and that there's no need to apologize and what ever else I could say to ease her guilt.

At this point, I thought she wanted to squirm out of there as soon as possible and hang up right away. But no, she was very friendly and we ended up talking for the next hour and a half. I gave her outs, but she kept asking me questions. Wasn't expecting that. I was really impressed that she was so honest with me, and she gets high marks for doing it over the phone instead of email, the lazy man's mode of communication.

So, Minnesota Susan is fun to talk to, has great taste in music, is non-hostile and an honest person and is nonsurprisingly off-limits to G.
