Has anybody tried this stuff? When it's sufficiently frozen, it tastes like the real stuff. Does it give anyone else gas? I think it does me, but then I ate a whole pint by myself. One thing I found is that it's hard to scoop, it's a little like chipping chunks off a semiconductor lattice, what with all these smoothly cleaved 3-D polygons you end up with. I wonder if soy ice cream has a fermi level and band gap? Can I get it to emit a photon? It does taste creamy in a surprisingly dairy-esque way. This is a psychological nightmare, as it can cause more uncontrolled overeating.
I know that this will make me the big ice-cream snob, but after tasting real gelato from real italy, I can hardly eat normal ice cream anymore. Chipping soy ice cream will definitely not cut it.
Posted by: lesley at December 18, 2003 10:49 AMsoy is gaseous. think beans/legumes. and on top of that, you said that you had the whole pint (at once i presume) so that's probably a lot of soy in one sitting.homemade ice cream, if not eaten right away, becomes hard too. the only way to keep it soft is to put some kind of additive - maybe arabic gum? - which most ice cream brands do...
