I turned 27 in San Diego, California. The last time I had a birthday in Canada was 1998, which was also the last time I was an official residient of Canada. Just interesting, useless trivia.
The day after turning 27, I attended a short course at the 25th GaAs IC Symposium in sunny San Diego. I reckon not many newly turned 27 year olds do such things. Indeed I was stuck in a room of about 100 people, all much smarter than I. How often does that happen? We listened to people present papers on compound semiconductor reliability issues. How fun. I heard accents thicker than new england clam chowder. It might as well have been in their native languages.
As I sat at the back of the room eating my bagel and chocolate milk tyring not to doze off, I realized that there was a lot of brain power in this room. I could tell by the abnormally large sized heads everyone had. As usual I was the youngest and best dressed.
To my surprise, there were 6 women in the room, and they were actually differentiable from the men. Although, nothing to write home about, even though I am writing home about it at the moment.
