As you know - I have a penchant for dishing out nick names to all my friends and random people we know. Maybe I have outgrown that now.... Some memorable ones I remember:
Arun is AK47 - more a reflection of his initials than his marks in school
Chris is Tree - cuz he's as tall as one
Lesley is LL - this one is unofficial since it hasn't been endorsed by LL. Also LPT
Sanjay is "Disgrace" - I have to credit Martin with that one, disgrace to the race
Tim is Tats - for his love of breasts... chicken breasts that is (Full name is Tats Mac, since he is Scottish)
Craig Turner is CRT - Cathode Ray Tube Man, he'll never live that one down. Younger brother was christened LCD by me in Vancouver two years ago
Ben is Benny-Shoga, or B-Chan - Shoga is that ginger you eat with sushi, and Benny is a brand of the stuff in Japan.
Tien is Pinky - Cuz of his PNC, The Brain
Leon is The Brain - see above.
Kevin Chan is Frogger - Cuz of that haircut
John is Thor, or Thor-John, cuz he claims to be scandanavian and that's acutally his middle name.
No offence to Ben, but I heard from the Japanese at work that "ben" means "poo". So it's sort of interesting that they would name one of their own eddible products "pooey".
Posted by: lesley at October 1, 2003 06:18 AMWhat?? Ben doesn't mean poo. Ben was in Japan for a whole year, so I can't believe is coworkers were calling him "honourable poo" for 12 months while keeping a straight face. Although, the Japanese have a sick snese of humour. Ever wonder why green-tea ice cream looks like wasabi - it's no conincidence.
Posted by: G at October 1, 2003 07:42 AMG, for the record, ben does mean feces but it's used most commonly in conjunction with another character to mean convenient: benri. If you care, benpi means constipation and shoben means urine. I'm sure it crossed some of his co-workers' minds but the Japanese are good are poker faces and much too polite to tell Ben.
